FAQ’s
Q1. I don’t live in Lyme, can I still compost with you?
A1. Yes, and it’s still free. Please observe our hours of operation.
Q2. I did not buy a bucket, can I still compost with you?
A2. Yes, and it’s still free. Please bring your food scraps in any vessel you like.
Q3. Are you open in the winter?
A3. Yes, our farm operates year round and so does our composting program. Wednesday-Saturday, Dawn to Dusk are our drop off hours.
Q4. Is it really all food? I’ve composted in the past and they said not to bring certain things.
A4. Yes, it’s everything that is food. No packaging please, even if it says it’s compostable.
Q5. Why no packaging?
A5. Some compostable materials don’t actually break down in composting systems. Some of them have plastic liners. The organic certification standards don’t allow them, and we want our compost to be OMRI listed soon.
Also, visually, compostable packaging looks like trash. Someday we hope that manufactures of compostables will share their ingredient’s list with OMRI, so it can be allowed in our compost. We are not there yet as an industry.
Q6. Where can I buy one of those spiffy buckets?
A6. Lyme Town Hall normal business hours. See the First Select Person Christy.
Q7. Can I buy finished compost for my garden, flowers or farm?
A7. The majority of the compost we make is used on our own fields. However, sometimes our production exceeds our demand, and we have a electric truck and dump trailer that can deliver between 3-8 yards at a time. We are able to deliver high quality, finished compost within 75 miles of our farm, by the yard, when available. Text Baylee at 616 292 3311 to check and see if we have compost for you.
